Regime wants more spending – $50B for transportation
After spending $814B (or more) on a “stimulus” for “shovel-ready” projects that were supposed to create jobs (but didn’t), our dear comrade leader is looking for “bipartisan” congressional support for yet another “stimulus” boondoggle. This time it’s for rebuilding the nation’s transportation infrastructure. Wait, what? Wasn’t the first mega-spendulus supposed to cover that? (story here from the AP)
President Barack Obama on Monday lobbied for Republican support from Capitol Hill for a burst of spending on transportation projects, calling his proposal a jobs creator for the middle class and an overdue investment in the country’s foundation.”There’s no reason why we can’t do this,” Obama said in a brief Rose Garden event. “There’s no reason why the world’s best infrastructure should lie beyond our borders. This is America. We’ve always had the best infrastructure … All we need is the political will.”
Obama is proposing a $50 billion plan as an initial step toward a six-year program of transportation programs. It calls for building, fixing or maintaining thousands of miles of roads, rail lines and airport runways, along with installing a new air navigation system to reduce travel delays, and other projects.
I guess the first “stimulus” was for other “shovel-ready” projects like:
- the Florida Turtle Tunnel
- the Minneapolis Puppet Theater
- the St. Cloud Airport to Nowhere
- the Murtha Airport to Nowhere
- the Mt. St. Helens Visitor Center renovation
- the hundreds of other wasteful projects
After congress used the first “stimulus” as their ATM for pork projects, we’re expected to pony up another $50B to seed a 6 year plan for more waste/fraud/abuse. Oh yeah, that’ll work. And of course, our dear comrade forgot to mention how all this will be funded – with more debt, naturally.
We have a government that has saddled future generations with economy-crushing debt and two years of deficits over $1T. We are heading into 2011 without a budget which could push the deficit past the projected $1.6T figure. WHAT THE HELL ARE THESE PEOPLE THINKING??? We need to rid Washington of these grossly irresponsible SOBs ASAP.
