BOHICA – Here comes immigration “reform”

The recent passage of tough new immigration legislation in Arizona has drawn the attention of our dear comrade leader, who called the new laws “misguided.” (story here from Bloomberg) As he prepares his great white steed to ride in and save us from ourselves, Harry Reid is preparing to push “reform” legislation through the senate. For the record, the new Arizona law has the support of 70% of the state’s likely voters.

President Barack Obama called anew for overhauling the nation’s immigration laws, saying a failure to do so will lead to “misguided” efforts such as legislation passed in Arizona.

“Our failure to act responsibly at the federal level will only open the door to irresponsibility by others,” Obama said at a Rose Garden naturalization ceremony for 24 members of the U.S. military. “That includes, for example, the recent efforts in Arizona.”

The actions by the Arizona legislature threaten “to undermine basic notions of fairness that we cherish as Americans,” Obama said. It also may hamper trust between residents and law enforcement authorities, he said.

He said he has instructed U.S. authorities to monitor the state’s actions and to “examine the civil rights and other implications” of the legislation.

Fairness? What fairness? The AZ law simply empowers local law enforcement to enforce existing laws – already on the federal books. This is an example of a state doing what the federal government refuses to do. Arizona is on the front lines of the illegal invasion. They certainly know better than DC apparatchiks the effects of mass illegal invasion.
