CNN was the pioneer cable news network – founded in 1980 by Ted Turner. (more here) They long enjoyed excellent ratings and became the standard in cable news. Over the past few years, however, they have been pummeled into the ratings basement by every other cable news outlet. From October 2008 to October 2009 their overall ratings dropped by over 50% and 77% in prime time. (more here) In the first quarter of this year their prime time ratings have slipped an additional 42% from the same period last year.

The meteoric rise of FoxNews may explain some of this but it is more probable that their consistently biased news and opinion coverage is to blame. Yet, according to this story (from ABC News), they remain clueless on their disastrous performance.

CNN said that it’s in a “category of one” among television news networks in how it delivers non-biased news, and promised to continue emphasizing its journalism despite a ratings free-fall on its flagship network.

The network’s sales pitch to advertisers on Tuesday came two weeks after the Nielsen Co. revealed that CNN’s weekday prime-time viewership during the first three months of the year was down 42 percent from 2009.

“We will never abandon our core faith in having nonpartisan reporting,” said Jon Klein, president of CNN U.S.

“Nonpartisan reporting?” Are you kidding me? You’re the king of biased journalism and it will eventually kill you. Good riddance.

It’s not your business model that sucks – it’s YOU that sucks.” — Andrew Breitbart
