The TEA Party spitting incident

During the TEA Party protest at the Capitol in DC last month Rep. Emanuel Cleaver (D-MO) claimed he was spat upon as members of the Congressional Black Caucus passed by a group of protesters. Of course the state-run media ran with this as more evidence of TEA Party racism and boorish behavior. Absent any corroborating evidence whatsoever, Cleaver is now backing away from this claim by stating that “others” have been saying this and more incredibly, that he never made the claim in the first place. He’s lying, according to this post by Weasel Zippers.

Here’s the statement that Cleavers office released about the incident: Rep. Emanuel Cleaver’s office released the following statement: For many of the members of the CBC, like John Lewis and Emanuel Cleaver who worked in the civil rights movement, and for Mr. Frank who has struggled in the cause of equality, this is not the first time they have been spit on during turbulent times.

This afternoon, the Congressman was walking into the Capitol to vote, when one protester spat on him. The Congressman would like to thank the US Capitol Police officer who quickly escorted the others Members and him into the Capitol, and defused the tense situation with professionalism and care. After all the Members were safe, a full report was taken and the matter was handled by the US Capitol Police. The man who spat on the Congressman was arrested, but the Congressman has chosen not to press charges. He has left the matter with the Capitol Police.

So I guess by saying that he never said it, despite evidence to the contrary, it makes truth from a lie? Of course, you don’t want to question him at all for fear of being called a racist.

I was listening to Boortz the other morning when he had a spokesperson for Rep. Hank Johnson call in to explain that Rep. Johnson was only “using a metaphor” when he said that the island of Guam would tip over and capsize. (more here) Boortz started pressing this guy about the accusations of racism against the TEA Party, again without any evidence despite a $100K reward from Andrew Breitbart. (more here) This clown’s only response, after admitting the lack of any evidence was to ask Boortz, “So, are you calling Rep. Lewis a liar?” That’s when the dialog ended. I wish Boortz would have said that Lewis is a liar but he didn’t.

The left is out of ammo against the TEA Party. Their claims of racism are not sticking. The word has little meaning any more.
